Here’s is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to apply their youth engagement expertise in BC’s exciting physical activity, recreation, parks and culture sector focused on promoting a high quality of life for all British Columbians healthy individuals and communities and sustainable environments and economies.
BC Recreation and Parks Association is a not-for-profit organization that provides professional development for practitioners in the parks, recreation and culture sector; that advocates for healthy lifestyles and communities; and is the voice for the sector that articulates the health, social, economic and environmental benefits of parks and recreation.
BC Recreation and Parks Association is delivering a new initiative a national youth engagement movement for physical activity in British Columbia. It is designed to increase levels of physical activity among Canadians age 13 to 19 by drawing on the power of young people to reach out to their less active peers, to develop their leadership skills, and to break down the barriers to active living that many young people encounter. The initiative supports a by-youth for-youth approach where young people develop and deliver activities that are relevant to their peers and customized to their local communities. The initiative groups are supported by local organizations that provide guidance (as needed), infrastructure, facilities and safety policies. The initiative is national in scope, delivered in the community by a network of partners at the provincial/territorial levels and will have active projects in both rural and urban communities in every province and territory.
A website will provide a space for youth to connect, to take ownership, to find ways to get active, to track their collective and individual progress and to share information, successes and challenges.
The initiative is powered by ParticipACTION (www.participaction.com) and sponsored by Coca-Cola Canada (coca-cola.ca).
