JOB OVERVIEW
The Renfrew Collingwood Food Security Coordinator is a community development and a senior management position. The Coordinator’s key responsibilities include supporting local leadership development and capacity building around food security initiatives. The position encompasses tasks and related skills in capacity building, planning events, community and public relations, financial management and resource development, and building partnerships with individuals, groups, and organizations. Some examples of initiatives include a community garden, a food-producing roof top garden, and Community Kitchens.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Post-secondary education in Administration, Land and Food Systems, Community Development, nutrition, or Sociology is an asset or 5 years equivalent experience.
· Ability to plan, mobilize, and evaluate various community initiatives including developing food and food growing programs and resources as well as researching innovative ideas around food security in the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood.
· Ability to organize community capacity around cultural learning and sharing through community gardens, rooftop gardens, community kitchens and other capacity building initiatives.
· Ability to oversee contractors, staff, volunteers and community leaders and assist in building their capacity.
· Demonstrated knowledge and leadership abilities in issues related to food security including food growing, organic growing practices, sharing cooking, food and nutrition.
· Strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership, networking, and communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to manage budget, keep records including volunteer hours, write grants, report and carry out fundraising responsibilities. Entrepreneurial thinking and experience is an asset.
· Knowledge of relevant community resources and networks, both locally and regionally.
· Previous experience and interest in working together with a diverse community, including different cultures, economic backgrounds, etc.
· Ability to work cooperatively and independently in a non-profit and volunteer based organization.
· Ability to work flexible hours
· Experience with immigrant groups and ability to connect them with neighbourhood resources and food security initiatives.
JOB DETAILS
Salary : $20.91 per hour
Schedule : 28 hours per week on flexible work schedule
Location : 5288 Joyce Street, Vancouver
Expected Start Date : October 24, 2008
