If you don’t have plans for this Saturday, you might want to check out this day long even exploring South Asia.  Here are the details: Destination South Asia Poster 2 Saturday March 24th 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Henry Angus Building 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Complimentary dinner and networking (Global Lounge) “The UBC Pakistan Students’ Association in conjunction with the Centre for India and South Asia research present to you “Destination South Asia” – A Conference on South Asia.  A quick browse through various media outlets can confirm that the Indian subcontinent is playing a burgeoning role in global affairs. Destination South Asia aims to foster a broader perspective of the region’s issues. The daylong conference will feature eleven discussions led by some of the most distinguished faculty members of the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. Professors will speak on a variety of topics, ranging from Twitter use amongst young Pakistanis as mediums for creative expression, the impact of the Subcontinent’s rapid development on the environment, to promoting equity amongst Dengue fever patients, and assessing what contributed to India’s economic growth during the 90’s. The mid-day break will consist of refreshments as well as student-led workshops teaching Bhangra, regional languages, and the art of Henna. The day will end with a networking session at the Global Lounge featuring complementary dinner catered by Saravana Bhavan. We will also give away four $50 gift cards to ticket master as door prizes! The event, including the dinner, is completely free so please register as soon as possible! We only have a limited amount of spaces.
