Final Class of October

Oct 25, 2011 We only have one class left for the month of October, and it looks like a good one.  Join us tomorrow evening for a presentation from Ze Soryal. Ze Soryal is a leadership consultant and conference speaker whose passion for global change is grounded in his uncompromising commitment to internal, personal transformation. Having studied the life cycles of empires, Ze recognizes that the core values of a civilization or culture can lead either to its strengthening or to its demise. Since those values are rooted in the civilization’s individual citizens and leaders, to effect true change takes more than different laws, but rather a true transformation in the hearts of leaders and people at a grass-roots level. It takes our commitment to becoming the change we want to see. The key value needed is “orientation towards others” (or in simple terms, the golden rule of doing to others as you would have them do to you.) Since our individualistic society with its fast pace and conveniences keeps us at a distance from others, we often fail to see how we live our lives in diametric opposition to this central value. Through the context of living in intentional community with others, as well as through teaching small groups and consulting with charities here and internationally, Ze shares his life and his wisdom to initiate redemptive transformation wherever he goes. Upcoming Deadline: Also, don’t forget that you need to have your first two participation credits completed by the end of this month.  If you have a good reason why you will not be able to do this, please let Alisha know by emailing her at ubcgrs@gmail.com. Confused about what to do and how?  Check out the “How to…” section under Pages on the left side of this page.  If you are having technical difficulties, set up a time to meet with Alisha in the computer lab. Here is how you can receive credit:
  • Producing a blog with a bio/about page if you didn’t already have one
    • This is a course requirement.  You need to include some sort of description of yourself and your goals for GRS, preferably incorporating a photo of yourself.
    • Once your blog is set up, email Alisha (ubcgrs@gmail.com)with the link (blogs.landfood.ubc/yourawesomeblogname)

    • If you already have a blog from previous semesters of GRS, you may choose to create more postings for your blog, or simply participate in the GRS discussion boards (see links below).
  • Posting on the discussion board
  • Thoughtful postings on your blog
  • Thoughtful comments on the blogs of your peers.  If you choose to go this route, please email the link to your comment to Alisha (ubcgrs@gmail.com).
