Camp 2 Campus: UBC Refugee Camp

Have you ever thought about what it might be like to have no refuge? Have you ever wondered how the 42 million people fleeing from conflict and war live? Come learn about refugee rights and support the work done by Médecins Sans Frontières. In recognition of Refugee Rights Day, on April 4th, a coalition of UBC student groups will present Camp 2 Campus, an interactive display designed to raise awareness about the conditions of refugees around the world and the work of Médecins Sans Frontières in refugee camps. From 9am to 4pm, this installation will present displays about food and malnutrition, safety and human rights, clinics, shelter, and water and sanitation in refugee camps, as well as related work done in Canada. From 5pm to 8pm, we will be hosting a series of workshops, speakers, expert panels, and ethnic foods all focused on exploring the plight of refugees who have come to Canada, and those who still struggle around the world. Dinner and dessert will be served. Both daytime and nighttime components are free of charge. We hope that this event will be an opportunity to learn about life from another perspective, and to further our university’s goal of fostering global citizenship.
