Kallari Amazon Volunteer Opportunity
Volunteer in the Amazon with the Kallari Association:
The Kallari Association has sold their unique Amazon handcrafts & organic chocolate in over twelve countries, spanning four continents. This coalition of over 1670 artisans and farmers set out to establish economic alternatives to rainforest destruction/logging practices in the communities of the Upper Napo River.
Our goal is to increase family incomes without sacrificing natural resources. In addition, we have proven to be an excellent mechanism for inspiring Kichwa youth to learn and practice traditional harvesting, weaving and carving techniques. We currently sell and average of $30,000 per year of original crafts (jewelry, accessories, and home decorating items), $34,000 per year of organic cocoa. Our cooperative needs to access additional markets, undertake innovative business research, and develop attractive promotional strategies for use in North America and Europe.
Due to Kallari´s success, additional communities have been waiting up to five years to join the cooperative. In order to support the addition of these communities, we are exploring new market opportunities for 100% natural rainforest products, and researching market potential for rainforest fruits, medicinal plants, musical instruments, natural dyes and mordents, and fiber apparel. We are seeking seed funding to start a small restaurant in Tena and product outlet in the Quito international airport. In addition, Kallari is researching carbon sequestration opportunities associated with reforestation programs
