The Green Timbers Heritage Society is hiring two Environmental Education Team Members for the Surrey Natural Areas Partnership (SNAP) summer program. The SNAP program is a unique partnership involving three local non-profit groups and Surrey Parks, Recreation & Culture. The goal of the program is to restore and enhance Surrey’s natural area parks and to increase awareness and stewardship of these areas. The Environmental Education Team Members will work under the direction of the Surrey Nature Centre staff to deliver environmental summer camps, public programs, and participate in special events.
Duties
*Deliver programs for elementary school and preschool groups, summer day camps, and adult and family groups
*Lead interpretive walks for children, youth and adults
*Host and attend special events, primarily at the Surrey Nature Centre, but occasionally in the community
*Create program-related materials such as crafts, games, and activities
*Possibly assist occasionally with other SNAP teams and/or the Eco Ranger volunteers
Term: May 4 to August 28, 2009
Hours: 35 hours per week, Mon-Fri with evening and weekend work required. |

Required Qualifications
*High Five certification is required, but may be obtained upon hiring
*Valid Level 1 first aid certification is required, but may be obtained upon hiring
*Completion of a criminal record check will be required as a condition of employment
*Enrolment in, or completion of, an undergraduate degree or two year diploma program in Education/Recreation/Public Relations, Biology/Enviro Studies or related discipline
*Experience working with children and the public
*Strong public relations and interpersonal skills
*Creativity, enthusiasm and interest in ecology and the environment
Preferred Qualifications
*Knowledge of computer graphics programs is an asset
