The vision of the SeaChoice program is to achieve and maintain market reforms for seafood that result in sustainable fisheries and healthy oceans. The SeaChoice program includes research on the status of Canadian fisheries and aquaculture, public education, industry outreach, strategic media and online communications, the development of fisheries policy reform initiatives, as well as cooperation with other sustainable seafood initiatives and organizations that are working on sustainable fisheries policy reform.
Sustainable Seafood Canada is a coalition of five leading Canadian conservation organizations working together via the SeaChoice program to raise public awareness of the threats to ocean health from unsustainable fishing and aquaculture practices, and of the solutions that sustainable fisheries offer. Sustainable Seafood Canada brings together expertise from across Canada with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society – BC Chapter, David Suzuki Foundation, Ecology Action Centre, Living Oceans Society, and Sierra Club BC.
The SeaChoice Corporate Relations Coordinator will report to and take direction from the National Program Manager based in Vancouver. Working with the Sustainable Seafood Canada Steering Committee and the National Manager, the Corporate Relations Coordinator will take a lead role in coordinating the activities of SeaChoice member organizations working on large retail and food service initiatives. This work targets major seafood buyers in Canada, such as grocers and institutions, to achieve sustainable seafood policies and procurement practices within these companies.
This is a four days per week position and will be based at the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (BC Chapter) office in downtown Vancouver.
Responsibilities:
• Liaise with and coordinate all activities from the corporate initiatives program with the National SeaChoice Program Manager.
• Assist in building and maintaining strategic partnerships with retail partners and seafood suppliers along with the staff of SeaChoice member organizations.
• Conduct research projects related to the corporate initiatives program and provide support for relevant research undertaken by coalition staff and/or contractors as required.
• Maintain active, functional working relationships with all SeaChoice Steering Committee members and staff involved in SeaChoice activities as well as relevant groups working on similar initiatives in Canada and the United States.
• Regularly provide reports on emerging issues and news about the retail program to the National Manager and the Steering Committee.
• Organize outreach and education initiatives and events to the retail and food service industry, including event coordination.
• Work with the National Manager to facilitate the creation of outreach products for the corporate initiatives program (e.g. promotional materials, novel outreach tools, website content etc.).
• Work with outside contractors for necessary projects.
• Participate in writing grant applications and reports to funders as pertaining to the large retail and food service initiatives.

Qualifications:
• Business acumen (experience in working with large food service operators or grocery retailers or similar business is an asset).
• Experience in outreach, education and communications.
• Understanding of and commitment to sustainability and conservation.
• Knowledge of fisheries issues in Canada and internationally, scientific fisheries literature, and fisheries certification (e.g. MSC) is an asset.
• Flexible and adaptable – willing to be open to an evolving work plan.
• Ability to multitask.
• Ability to travel as necessary (possible 1-2 week trips to Toronto will be required).
