Directed Study Opportunity (three credits)
Intelligent Pest Monitoring
An internationally recognized project in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems
Are you interested in:
Plant communication
Environmental-friendly pest management
Sustainable crop production
Trying the cutting-edge analytical technologies
Setting up experiments in commercial greenhouses
Through this project, you learn about secret language of plants and their amazing
defensive mechanisms, chemical ecology of insect-plant interactions, greenhouse
vegetable production and pest management. You also can learn how to operate the
portable ultra-fast gas chromatograph (zNose) used mainly by FBI, US Army and
department of Home Land Security for CSI; bomb, explosive and narcotic detection.

Full training will be provided
You need to have basic computer skills and a willingness to learn new things
You need to be free at least one day a week (Monday to Friday) and write a report
Project time line: Summer, Fall and Winter of 2008 (3 credits per semester AGRO 497)
