General Overview:
International Peer Advisors (IPAs) are a dynamic group of student workers who are trained to provide strong support to international students to enhance their experience in transition and success in their university life. It is a unique opportunity to work with professionals and students from different parts of the world to develop your leadership and intercultural communication skills, to actively involve in a variety of campus activities as a student leader, and to build up a great network and gain meaningful work experience.
Duties:
• Provide information and assistance to international students regarding immigration, health insurance, employment, and cultural transitions
• Join in orientation events to assist international students with transition
• Attend campus activities and work on projects to engage and connect international students with campus services and resources
• Refer students to appropriate campus services and International Student Advisors for assistance and support
• Perform other duties as assigned by International Student Development
These pisitions are Work learn or Work Study positions.
Successful applicants must be available for
1) Two training sessions on August 25 and 26, 2009
2) 10 hours a week from August 31 to September 11, 2009
3) 6 hours a week throughout the academic year of 2009-10
4) Monthly meeting on the first Monday of each month (except for the first month of the term) from 1 to 2:30 pm throughout the academic year
All applicants must be currently enrolled UBC students and eligible for either Work Study or Work Learn Program.
