KidSafe Volunteer Gardener
KidSafe’s mission is to help develop safe havens for at-risk inner-city elementary school students when schools are traditionally closed.
Goals of the Project:
– To use schools (an community facilities when necessary) for at-risk elementary students living in poverty, and offer them food, innovative programs and easy-to-access services when schools are traditionally closed.
– To develop a network of child-friendly services.
– To help ensure that every vulnerable child is safe and given opportunities to help strengthen his or her self-esteem.
– To build and foster partnerships with children, parents, charitable organizations, community agencies, government services, businesses, corporations and interested individuals.
Description: In keeping with KidSafe’s mandate to provide healthy development and nutrition to Vancouver’s inner city elementary school children, KidSafe has created five gardens at our five KidSafe sites on elementary school grounds in Vancouver’s east side. We are looking for volunteers to come out and help weed and water our gardens as well as plant and harvest along side the children. Must be a responsible team worker with experience in gardening, previous work with children is an asset and a criminal record check may be required.

• Experience gardening
• Team player
• Reliable
• Not afraid to get a little bit dirty
• Experience with children is an asset
