Assist the Farm Manager, CSA staff and volunteers to plan, manage and implement the operations of the Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) project; growing organic produce on two sites (~3 acres) at the Brooksdale Environmental Centre and Kingfisher Farm for community food banks, women’s shelters, low- income program participants and CSA partners; liaise with community members and coordinate garden volunteers; assist with Fun on the Farm program supporting food security for local low income, single parent and refugee families–providing nutrition information, community garden participation, a children’s garden, and healthy meal preparation on a budget; assist with organization and development of community events such as Ocean’s Day, Native Plants Day, Spring Festival, and other events. This job centres around outdoor, farm labour – planting, tending and harvesting of organic food crops, some animal care (chickens, sheep, pigs, llama), but will also occasionally perform visitor hosting & tours, assist with community education workshops, administration and other ARC community-related tasks as required. Studies in Agro-ecology, Agriculture, Land & Food Studies, Food Security, Horticulture, Community Health Education, Permaculture, Farm Management, Veterinary Science, or similar fields would be suitable for this position. This intern will work directly with a small-scale, sustainable agriculture projects, assist in front-line service delivery to persons in need, and will centre around the planting, tending and harvesting of organic food crops, along with some animal care.
