Position: IPM Field Scouts (vegetable and berry crops) Supervisors: IPM Co-ordinators: Renée Prasad, Heather Meberg, Carolyn Teasdale, Lena Syrovy, Karina Sakalauskas, Marybel Soto, Brock Glover, Marjolaine Dessureault Responsibilities: Monitor vegetable and berry crops for insects and diseases (most scouts spend 80% of their time in potatoes) Complete field data sheets Inform supervisors of any problems or irregularities in the fields being monitored Organize and file field data Smile even when you don’t want to!! Other duties as required Positions involve working out of doors in almost all weather in co-operation with a team of other students and supervisors. Some students will have the opportunity to participate, for some of the summer, in a company research project or monitoring another crop. Recommended skills/training: Interested in IPM, entomology, plant pathology Experience in a team environment Educational background in Agriculture and /or Biology Reliable motor vehicle (and Valid BC Drivers License or Equivalent) In good physical health Good attitude towards being useful to our clients Length of Employment: May 3, 10, 17 or 25, until Aug. 27 2010 Number of positions: up to 16 Salary: This position is paid hourly (starting at $11.50/hr to be increased to $12.00/hr mid season, based on performance) in bi-weekly pay periods. The workweek is normally 35-40 hours long. Mileage is paid at $.40 /Km for use of personal vehicle from job site to job site. Vacation pay (4%) is paid out with each pay cheque. Location: Depending on crop, Delta, Cloverdale, Richmond, Langley, Abbotsford, Pitt Meadows. We try to minimize driving and encourage car pooling by employing scouts as close as possible to where they live; however, this is not always possible. Company Information

E.S. Cropconsult Ltd. began providing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Services to growers of vegetable and berry crops in the Fraser Valley in 1988. At present, we provide such services to 6000+ acres of agricultural commodities including potato, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, currants, gooseberries, and some urban interests; turf grass, shade trees, indoor tropical plantscapes and nurseries. Geographically, we service greater Vancouver, and West Delta to Abbotsford & Maple Ridge in the Fraser Valley. Our staff has grown from 1 in 1988, to more than 30 in the last few years.

Research is a substantial and necessary part of our service. Our research projects focus on all aspects of the IPM tool box, including biological, cultural, physical and chemical controls.  Our research questions are driven by industry needs and priorities.
