Position Title: Ontario Regional Coordinator, Sustainable Campuses

Wage: minimum $26,000 annual salary with stipend for travel and costs
(subject to SYC pay scale and funding)
The Ontario Regional Coordinator for Sustainable Campuses is integral in increasing and building upon the successes of the Sustainable Campuses project in Ontario. The ideal candidate is a motivated, inspired and knowledgeable youth, has been active in the campus sustainability movement, and has previous experience with SYC programs.
Project Overview:
In 1998, the Sierra Youth Coalition launched the innovative Sustainable Campuses project with the goal of empowering students to make university and college campuses in Canada more socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable by changing institutional operations, curriculum and culture. Sustainable Campuses is currently one of SYC’s main focus areas and most successful national initiatives.
Sustainable Campuses emphasizes the importance of process and partnerships in campus sustainability projects. The guiding principle is that by working together as a campus community (students, dministrators, faculty, staff) in decision-making processes, we can create a cohesive vision of sustainability and take concrete actions toward positive long-term changes on-campus.
Responsibilities:
1. To offer training, resources and support to a minimum of ten participating campuses working to implement Sustainable Campuses;
2. Assist campus community members in developing a strategic plan and a work plan for implementing Sustainable Campuses on their campus;
3. In-person campus visits for campus partners a minimum of one time each semester;
4. Provide ongoing support throughout the school year to campuses working on Sustainable Campuses — this support consists of phone, email and campus visits;
5. Document evolution of project in your region, share learning process with other Regional Coordinators and the SYC national office, and participate consistently on Regional Coordinator calls;
6. Guide and support student organizers in coordinating a regional conference;
7. When possible, participate in opportunities to represent SYC at local and regional meetings, conferences, workshops and events that are relevant to SYC’s mandate and program areas;
8. Support Sustainable Campuses fundraising activities regionally and nationally as required;
9. Actively participate in Sustainable Campuses project staff team (calls, email communication, etc.); and
10. Attend all project planning and SYC evaluation retreats, the Sustainable Campuses Conference and other project team face-to-face activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
* B.A. or B.Sc. in a related field and/or equivalent experience that includes knowledge of the campus context
* Experience working/volunteering in the campus sustainability movement, including environmental, social,
and economic sustainability;
* Knowledge of the Sierra Youth Coalitions and its programs;
* Experience in greenhouse gas inventories and emissions reductions planning;
* Knowledge of campus sustainability initiatives in the region;
* Strong writing, research and communication skills;
* Capable of working in a flexible work environment;
* Ability to work independently but also as part of a team;
* Quick learner; and
* Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
* Bilingualism (French/English).
* Experience working within an Anti-Oppression framework.
* Experience in conference and/or large event planning.
* Experience in fundraising and grant writing
