GRS graduate and artist Alana Hansen created these works of art to represent the Global Resource Systems program, incorporating both resources and regions. The works showcase many different elements: from cityscape to lush rainforest, flowing water, fish splashing, sustainable agriculture and energy, people working together and connected deeply to the landscape. This is truly a meaningful piece that represents the many facets of GRS.

“Alana Hansen is an emerging artist who lives and breathes to create art with and inspired by nature in Coastal British Columbia. Having spent her childhood summers on the Southern Gulf Islands… swimming in the Salish Sea, Alana is drawn to places where the land meets the ocean. Immersed in nature is where she feels the most alive and creative, where the interconnections in our ecosystems become infinite and where the art from her soul is awakened. Through her whimsical landscape watercolour paintings and impermanent earth art installations…she aspires to unearth a sense of curiosity and a greater understanding of the interconnectedness between all living beings.
With an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree in Global Resource Systems from the University of British Columbia, Alana’s work is informed by a worldview that is deeply rooted in both ecological science and visual arts. It was throughout her education that Alana’s creativity truly began to flourish. She was inspired to paint as a means to connect all that she was learning…visualizing academic topics and relating them to the human soul through art.
