AIESEC UBC International Exchange
AIESEC UBC, a chapter of the world’s largest student-driven organization, has had 50 years of experience sending UBC students and recent alumni abroad on international internships. Each year AIESEC provides 6 000 members the challenging opportunity to live and work in a foreign country in the areas of management, technology, education, and development. The AIESEC internship database encompasses a vast network of 107 countries and offers flexibility in dates and duration: internships start anytime during the year and last from 2-18 months long. We are currently recruiting for exchange participants to go abroad this winter (anywhere between December – March). If you are interested, please send an email to exchange@aiesecubc.ca. Move quickly, the deadline is approaching!
If you are interested in internship opportunities in the summer, please sign up on our mailing list so you can be notified of our info sessions in January. For a general overview of AIESEC, check out http://www.aiesec.ca/ubc/.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Are internships paid?
All internships are paid with the exception of developmental internships. In the latter case, the intern is usually subsidized in at least one of the three: accommodation, transport or food.
What is the program cost?
There is a one-time administrative fee of $530, of which $150 is a refundable deposit.
What kind of development internships are on your system?
Development internships are the most abundant on our database, with the majority being located in Asia Pacific, Africa, South America and Central & Eastern Europe. With the only category criteria being positive social contribution to a community, development internships cover a wide range of areas from corporate social responsibility, HIV/AIDS, soft skills building to environmental conservation and English education. Development internships are usually shorter in length (2-5 months approximately). Attached are five sample internships.
What sets AIESEC apart from other internship organizations?
We are a non-profit business entirely run by students, with the vision of creating globally-minded leaders. All our internships are locally raised by AIESEC local committees abroad partnering with local NGO’s, governmental bodies and/or companies. The home local committee (in this case, AIESEC UBC), prepares the intern on logistics, culture shock and country-specific information. Once abroad however, the receiving local committee takes over – interns are picked up at the airport, accommodation is found for them in advance and they are shown around the city during the duration of their internship. Best of all, the receiving local committee is a channel through which the intern becomes socially integrated into the community and culture – interns are expected to attend social events and contribute to the local committee abroad.
What is the selection process?
Applicants are screened through two stages where they are assessed on their suitability for going abroad and their professional qualifications for jobs. For more information, please set up a meeting with the Outgoing Exchange team at exchange@aiesecubc.ca.
