International Project Assistant

Job Posting  International Project Assistant   The Justice Education Society’s (JES) mission is to build stronger communities by promoting understanding of, access to, and confidence in our justice system, at home and abroad. The Society provides hands-on, targeted justice-related educational services to the general public, youth, Aboriginals and immigrants throughout British Columbia, Canada and around the world. The Justice Education Society intends to hire a Project Assistant to support our International Programs in Central America.   Title: International Project Assistant   Description:   The Society’s International Programs work in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador to strengthen the capacities of the justice system. The programs focus on institution building to create good governance; adapting best practices from Canada to train justice sector officials.  The assistant will work with the International Project Coordinator to implement the Society’s programs in Central America by:  
  • Coordinating logistics for activities in Canada, and activities in Central America in coordination with the JES office in Guatemala
  • Coordinating travel arrangements for delegations to and from Central America
  • Managing project budgets and expense reporting
  • Assisting the International Programs Manager and International Project Coordinator with writing project reports
  • Translating materials for JES international
  • Interpreting in Spanish and English for delegations
  • Liaising with international visitors and agencies
  • Updating the International Programs website
  • Writing the International Programs quarterly newsletter
  • Coordinating public engagement events
  • Helping develop communication tools
  • Updating archives, database and documentation
  • Performing various administrative tasks
  Required Skills:
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish (fully bilingual)

  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent coordination and administration skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  The following will be considered an asset:
  • Basic editing skills for video and audio files
  • Familiarity with Central American issues
  • Familiarity with Canadian justice system
  Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years related work experience
  • University degree in a related field
  • Ability to travel when necessary
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
