About the speakers:
Sean Cash, PhD
Applied economist, Department of Consumer Science, University of Wisconsin
Adjunct professor, Department of Rural Economy, University of Alberta
Research focuses on how food and nutrition policies affect both producers and consumers
Current and recent projects include the efficacy of food price interventions as public health tools; the role of agricultural policies on nutrition; how consumers value social aspects of food relative to other attributes; and how health information impacts consumers’ demand for food.
Kim Raine, PhD, RD
Professor, Centre for Health Promotion Studies, School of Public Health, University of Alberta
Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)/Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) Applied Public Health Chair
Co-director, Healthy Alberta Communities, a community-based chronic disease prevention project funded by Alberta Health and Wellness
Recent research focuses on the socio-environmental determinants of the obesity epidemic, and community-based strategies to promote healthy weights at multiple ecological levels.
Rick Barichello, PhD
Professor, Food and Resource Economics (FRE), Faculty of Land and Food Systems, UBC
Director, Centre for Southeast Asia Research, Institute for Asian Research, UBC
Research interests include analyzing the effects of selected agricultural policy instruments and international agricultural development.
