Position Overview
The Engineering Parks & Environment Department requires an auxiliary Research Assistant to work in the Environment section for approximately 12 weeks commencing mid-May 2010.
Responsibilities
With your proven commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, you will be involved in compiling progress results relating to the City’s waste reduction, energy conservation and climate protection goals. This work will involve compiling data from various sources, conducting field research, and preparing reports and submissions. You will research best practices to identify opportunities to accelerate recycling and waste diversion in the City and assist with other environmental programs and projects.
Requirements
You will have completed graduate or undergraduate studies in engineering, environmental science, business, or planning and have experience in recycling and waste reduction and/or energy conservation and climate protection. You will have proven ability to research and interpret information and prepare reports. Strong analytical abilities and working knowledge of spreadsheets along with excellent writing and interpersonal skills are also necessary. In addition you must have a valid class 5 BC Drivers License.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary:
$27.06 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
(Pay Grade 21 – January 2010 rates)
Hours of Work:
Any seven consecutive hours, exclusive of a one hour meal break between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
This position is subject to approval and partial funding by the HRSDC – Canada Summer Jobs Program, therefore, applicants must meet program criteria, which includes being currently registered as a full-time student and intending to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year, and be from 15 to 30 years of age (inclusive).
