ABOUT ‘BE THE CHANGE’
Be The Change Earth Alliance (BTCEA) is a not-for-profit society registered in 2005. We envision a life-enhancing world where people are living in ways that are spiritually meaningful, socially just and ecologically sustainable.
Be The Change activates this vision through the creation of a community-based learning engagement program that empowers citizens to connect, to understand, and to respond — individually and collectively – to the sustainability challenges facing us, with an expanded worldview.
Our program is composed of interactive workshops, presentations, dialogues, trainings, and resource tools that have been successfully integrated into schools, workplaces, faith-centers, and community centres in various regions throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe, creating ripples of positive change globally.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Be The Change Outreach Coordinator
We are hiring based on a student affirmative action policy: visible minorities, students with alternative abilities, First Nations or Aboriginals, and/or newcomers to Canada, will be prioritized. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and you must have been a full-time student this past year and plan to return to full time studies in September.
$10/hr
35 hours per week
Mid May to Late August 2010
Work tasks and responsibilities:
– Outreach the Be The Change program to diverse local constituents: environmental, academic (Universities and BCTF), businesses, faith-centers, marginalized groups, and the general public.
– Use event participant lists and database to research summer events and festivals in the lower mainland.
– Online summer event and festival research.
– Maintain a summer event and festival schedule.
– Set up, staff and promote the Be the Change Program at information booths.
– Maintain relationships with constituents and organizations through follow-up and establish the potential for future collaborations.
– Maintain networking contacts using filemaker data-entry.
– Streamline office database contacts.
– Assist in the development of student based education material regarding sustainability.
We are looking for students from any of the following disciplines, or with relevant experience in:
Business and/or Administration:
– Detail-oriented students with experience in Excel, Word, database management to record member activities and streamline program database material.
– Networking and sales – ability to pitch the program enthusiastically.
Social Science:
– Understanding of social justice issues.
– Knowledge of sustainability principles and the value of youth engagement.
– Good writing and editing skills.
– Familiarity and/or connections with sustainable oriented organizations and initiatives an asset.
Communications/Marketing:
– Program outreach strategies to environmental, academic, business, faith-center, marginalized groups, and the general public.
– Good knowledge of administrative and computer systems.
– In-Design, Photoshop, or other software knowledge to assist with the development of posters & flyers an asset.
