Job description: |
The CEDAR (Cross-cultural Education through Demonstration, Action and Recreation) Summer Day Camp, is an academic day camp that hosts Aboriginal middle school and elementary school students for two weeks each summer. The job duties include: (1) Planning and organizing CEDAR summer day camp activities, presenters, venues and curriculum for a two week project; (2) Facilitating the interviewing and organizing of volunteers for the program.; (3) Updating content on the CEDAR web site; and, (4) Maintaining filing and a database of campers and guardians/parents.
The coordinator will work with CEDAR planning committee to create and plan curriculum for the camp. The Coordinator will work with CEDAR recreation coordinator to ensure that adequate recreation and healthy lifestyles will be modeled for campers. |
Skills requiredand/orrecommended: |
Interest in Aboriginal education (especially in the area of sciences); even facilitation experience; knowledge, sensitivity and awareness of issues and concerns of Aboriginal students; interest in promoting Aboriginal student development; special skills in areas such as sports, audio-visual equipment, food preparation, and tutoring would be beneficial. Strong self motivation – able to take initiative and work independently – balanced with and an appreciation and receptivity for direction and guidance |
Anticipated skill and knowledge acquisition: |
Learn to prioritize and manage multiple tasks (using project management and other software). Develop independent project management skills. Event planning and facilitation skills. Curriculum development skills. |
