Intern and Earn Credit
Fresh Roots is committed to creating access to local, healthy, organically grown food in East Vancouver. By utilizing community backyards, we nurture future farmers to sow the seeds of a sustainable urban food system.
As Local As It Comes!
Fresh Roots grows delicious varieties of produce on the reclaimed, once fertile grounds of East Vancouver – right in our own backyards. By joining our CSA you can eat food grown just blocks away from your table.
Our CSA is a small-scale but effective way we, as a community, can confront some of the global challenges of pollution, land degradation and poor nutrition. We are committed to offering our community virtually zero carbon emissions food, freshly harvested, bike-trailer delivered, grown with East Van love, East Van compost, by local East Van farmers.
Fresh Roots is also a platform for strengthening community and for developing volunteer leadership.
Throughout the season, our gardens will host volunteer opportunities, workshops, harvest celebrations and community gatherings. Each member will have the opportunity to decide how engaged they want to become with their local food system.
What is Community Supported Agriculture?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a mutually beneficial relationship between farmers and eaters, ultimately bringing them closer together. Each year, CSA members purchase a share in the coming year’s harvest. By supporting the farm from seed to harvest, members help the farmer use the growing season to its fullest potential, ensuring more abundance for everyone. Everybody wins!
Shared Risk, Shared Reward
Joining a CSA is not like paying for items individually at the market. Instead, you’re buying a share of the whole seasons’ harvest and sharing in the risks and rewards that are inherent to farming; there are always some things that don’t grow as well as expected, and some that produce in abundance! As a member of our CSA, you’ll receive the best of locally available produce and get a feel for what the growing season is like here in East Vancouver. Eating seasonally means that the food is always at its freshest and best, full of all the stuff that we need at the right time of year.
