Ecojustice (formerly Sierra Legal Defence Fund) is seeking a talented and energetic communications associate to join and support our Communications team. The successful candidate will provide general communications support for our communications, fundraising, legal and science staff with a focus on Western Canadian operations.
The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be: to prepare press releases and related media materials and distributes to appropriate media contacts; pitches stories and opinion editorials to the media; performs daily media scans on environmental news and email to staff and board; tracks, compiles and distributes relevant media coverage.
The successful candidate will report to: the Communications Director
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Prepares press releases and related media materials and distribute to appropriate media contacts * Coordinate and produce newsletter with Direct Response Manager and desktop publisher * Perform general writing, proofreading and editing duties * Perform communications-related administrative tasks * Assist in website updates including posting news releases and links * Pitch stories and opinion editorials to the media * Perform daily media scans on environmental news and email to staff & board * Track, compile and distribute relevant media coverage
Qualifications:
* Bachelor degree in Communications or a related field. * Experience in media relations, journalism, and/or writing * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Computer literacy, including sound knowledge of Word and other MS Office applications and experience with websites and social media * Strong writing, researching, editing, planning and organizational skills * Experience producing media materials * Experience with website updating * Good interpersonal skills, sensitivity, tact and good sense of humour * Ability to learn quickly and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment * Creativity, imagination, and ability to take initiative a definite asset
