Volunteer in Thailand: Seed Saving Network
I’m writing to ask if you know of anyone who is interested in coming to volunteer with a seed saving network in northern Thailand.
The volunteer is needed to help document (about 4-5 reports in English) on topics like participatory plant breeding, community mechanisms to encourage in-situ conservation, etc. The documents will be a result of the volunteer’s full-on participation in the field, with several lowland and some highland farmers’ groups (mostly rice and some vegetables) of the Joko Learning Center in Nan province, northern Thailand.
The project is founded by Samruay Phadpol, an Ashoka Fellow. (I work for Ashoka Thailand right now.) His profile, written back in 1994, is at http://www.ashoka.org/fellow/2819. A Thai-language website of the project is at http://www.jokonan.org/. You seed savers and farmers can probably understand the information just by looking at the pictures. 🙂
This volunteer can start as soon as possible, and is invited to stay for as long as the end of 2010. They’re looking for someone who can stay for at least a few months — 6 to 12 would be ideal. And of course, someone who can write!
This volunteer will be provided with free room and board, but a stipend will have to be negotiated. Joko Learning Center has a very small budget.
If you know anyone who’s interested, send them my way with any questions or introductions at RNICHA@gmail.com.
