The Project Assistant will provide IT and web-development support for the project titled the Ethics of International Engagement and Service-Learning (EIESL). Responsibilities will include: building, testing, and hosting of a web-based guide book as part of the EIESL project; graphic design and layout of workshop and curriculum materials; graphic design and layout of final project report.WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Project Assistant will work under the direction of the EIESL Coordinators (Kendra Foster, Kari Markin and Matt Whiteman) and report to Dr. Shafik Dharamsi. The EIESL project is implemented through a partnership between the Centre for International Health (CIH) and Go Global. The Project Coordinator will work closely with the EIESL faculty partners, Go Global, EIESL staff, students, student groups, and volunteers. The work will be conducted throughout campus, across several faculties. Other working relationships will include interactions with various IT professionals (both UBC staff and external consultants if necessary), in conjunction with the web-based guidebook.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Major responsibilities include working with the aforementioned parties to use information develop from the EIESL project activities to:- Develop the web-based infrastructure and graphic design of an interactive web-based guide book (WBGB) for students, faculty, and community stakeholders. The WBGB will highlight key resources and best practices for international engagement and Service-Learning.
- Enter content developed by the EIESL team into the web-based structure of the web-based guide book.
- Ensure that the structure and look of the WBGB corresponds closely to the workshops and curriculum material that is being developed concurrently.
- Software programming and web-development of the actual WBGB, including hosting on the CIH and EIESL websites.
- Participate in EIESL project strategic planning meetings.
- Develop and maintain software/programming documentation.
- Develop and implement other related tasks as required
EXERCISING JUDGMENT/DECISION-MAKING
This position will be structured based on a pre-determined timeline for meeting milestones and producing deliverables. This position has the latitude to organize their work and exercise judgment within the range of established alternatives. Performs routine duties independently. This position requires accuracy, integrity and attention to detail as there will be some responsibility in ensuring that milestones are met.SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Project Assistant will work under the direction of the EIESL Coordinators, and report to Dr. Shafik Dharamsi.SUPERVISION GIVEN
The Project Assistant will not supervise any other project member.WORKING CONDITIONS

Minimum Education and Qualifications- Undergraduate student, preferably in Computer Science
- Related software programming and web-development experience; or combination of training, education, and experience
- Strong Object Oriented Programming knowledge
- Knowledge of Microsoft’s .Net Technology and C-Sharp language
- Familiarity with Visual Studio .Net
- Prior experience with graphical tools, java script, cascading style sheets (CSS), HTML
- Educational background in programming, having completed courses in both procedural and object oriented programming.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under pressure to meet deadlines
