Local Box Coordinator, Fraser Region Harvest Box
Job Summary: The Harvest Box program (HB) is a food-buying club that aims to increase access to high-quality, affordable fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms for community members in the Fraser Region (Delta, Langley, Surrey, Burnaby, New Westminster, Tri-Cities, Maple Ridge and White Rock areas). Fraser Region Harvest Box is taking steps towards sustainability by implementing an all “local” box in addition to its current “value” box. With an eye on turning the project into a social enterprise model the contractor will be responsible for the development and implementation of the “local” box. This position requires excellent networking, marketing and communication skills, as well as experience in program delivery, community development and an understanding of food systems, food security/insecurity and local agriculture. Deliverables:- To increase the amount of participants in the Fraser Region Harvest Box
- To support program sustainability of the Fraser Region Harvest Box
- To raise community awareness of the importance of local food sustainability
- To develop working relationships with other local food initiatives including farmers markets, pocket markets, community gardens, etc.
- To initiate and evaluate a five month pilot of the Fraser Region Local Food Box
- To integrate a local food box into the ongoing operations of the Fraser Region Harvest Box
- To work with the Regional Developer in moving the Fraser Region Harvest Box towards a social enterprise model
- host agency representative and the administration working group of the Fraser Region Harvest Box
- Post secondary education preferred
- Excellent local knowledge and connections in the Fraser Region required
- Demonstrated organizational, networking, marketing, promotion and fundraising skills
- Computer skills (i.e. word processing and spreadsheet management)
- Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize; sound problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
- Demonstrated program development skills, including needs assessment and planning skills
- Class 5 drivers license; access to a car
- Working knowledge of food security issues and local agriculture
