Create Change is a Vancouver based non-profit that is dedicated to empowering disadvantaged communities through the provision of education and water facilities. Create Change’s current area of operation is in Northern Ghana, West Africa. Through the avenue of video, Create Change is committed to showing its supporters the kind of impact that implemented projects are having. All donors get to choose exactly which project they wish to support, and Create Change is committed to documenting these changes, so that we have the opportunity to see the power that each individual has to change the lives of those living in poverty around the world.
JOB SUMMARY
The Project Coordinator will oversee staff and the projects carried out in our Northern Ghana office, and will act as the primary liaison between our Ghana and Canada office. They will ensure that staff members are focused and on task, and that all projects meet their deadlines. Approximately 70% of the Project Coordinator’s time will spent in the office, and 30% will be spent in the field. The selected candidate will receive a monthly stipend, and all travel expenses will be covered.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative
• Act as a liaison between Create Change Canada and its partner office in Ghana
• Ensure project schedules and deadlines are met
• Closely monitor all financial activities, and keep Canadian Headquarters advised of all situations which have the potential for a negative impact on internal controls or financial performance
• Develop weekly and monthly reports for Canadian Headquarters regarding all project activities
• Oversee the protection of the country office’s assets (cash & inventory)
• Update and improve databases used to maintain information on schools, communities, and students involved in our projects
Training & Staff Management
• Hire & train several new members of staff to ensure they carry out all work in accordance with Create Change policies and procedures
• Train staff on basic computer software operation, logistics, and administrative skills
• Develop systems to ensure staff operate efficiently and cooperatively
• Design weekly schedules to coordinate resources (motorbikes, translators, etc.), and to optimize staff efficiency.
Field Responsibilities
• Oversee the planning, coordination and implementation of projects and project related workshops
• Engage in field visits to monitor the implementation of projects
• Assess short-term impacts of current projects in conjunction with field staff
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelors degree in Management studies, HR management, international business, or a combination of equivalent training or experience
• At least two years experience in a management position
• Proven ability to lead teams in a deadline oriented environment
• Comfortable in a position of authority
• Excellent supervisory skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• High level of initiative
• Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and a high level of patience and tolerance
• Interest in poverty alleviation, and experiencing other cultures
