Dear Nutrition Educators and Students,
Nutrikids is a UBCstudent initiative that provides nutrition workshops to elementary schools in Vancouver. We aim to provide opportunities for students to reach out and take an active role in providing service, care and assistance to others. Volunteers teach children about the basics of nutrition so that they can start making smart choices about food at a young age. These workshops are designed to encourage elementary school students to try new foods by exploring a variety of foods and new food experiences. The program is free of charge and consists of fun, interactive 40-60 minute sessions. Lessons are available for all grade levels and are grounded in Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating. This year, we will be under the sponsorship of Kins’ Farm Market and COBS bread who will be providing us with fresh groceries, bread, and activity books.
We acknowledge the existing community programs that align with our program, including HeartSmart Kids from the Heart and Stroke Foundation and nutrition workshops from the BC Dairy Foundation. We simply wish to allow our student volunteers the opportunity to exercise their skills, work with children and to share their enthusiasm for nutrition. Many of our lesson plans and activities build on those provided by the BCDF. We also offer support to classrooms who’ve implemented their workshops as well as to community dietitians and nutritionists who require assistance with nutrition workshops.
Should you have any questions or are interested in being involved in this program, please feel free to contact us at

For interested volunteers, our mandatory Introductory Meeting will be held at UBC on Thursday, September 24th at 6 pm, please email us for more information.
Sincerely Yours,
UBC Nutrikids Coordinators
