Environmental Educator

The Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) promotes awareness of and respect for the natural world by playing a leadership role in the stewardship of Stanley Park through collaborative initiatives in education, research and conservation. SPES is seeking a highly motivated educator to assist in the delivery of innovative curriculum-based school programs and engaging public programs, both in Stanley Park and in local classrooms. Working out of the Dining Pavilion in Stanley Park and reporting to the School Programs Manager and the Public Programs Manager, this position will play a key role in furthering the profile and mission of the society.Duties:
- Lead nature education programs for elementary schools, community groups and the public
- Design, develop, promote and deliver school and community nature education programs
- Book school and community group programs and carry out associated administration
- Update, maintain and design program materials and equipment
- Assist in the promotion of programs and other duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Experience teaching or leading groups of children; an education degree is a strong asset
- Knowledge of BC ecology; a degree or diploma in biology/environmental studies is an asset
- Excellent leadership, organization, teamwork and communication skills
- Willingness to perform active work outdoors, rain or shine
- Experience in outdoor education or nature interpretation
- Proficiency with word-processing, database entry and e-mail on a PC
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign and Illustrator) an asset
- First Aid certification, BC driver’s license and criminal record check required
