Job Title: Summer Field Technician
Location: Dawson Creek/ Fort St. John area
Stationed daily from Farmington office
Employer: Peace Region Forage Seed Association
Preferred Field of Study: Agriculture, Ecology, Biology
Salary/ Wage: $11 to $17/ hr, depending on qualifications & experience
Normally 5 days per week, 8 hours per day
Hours will need to be flexible during peak busy harvest periods
Period of Employment: approximately May 1 until August 31, 2008
Description/ Duties:
-
- Website updating: assisting with updating websites and photo collection
- Forage seed research plots: seed preparation, site preparation, seeding, site maintenance, weed control, crop assessments, harvesting, sample processing, data entry, data processing, assistance with plots as necessary;
- Field scale plots: soil, compost & crop sampling, data entry, data processing;
- Summer tour: assist coordinator & directors to organize their annual tour;
- Assist other researchers during peak periods;
- Newspaper articles/ factsheets: assisting coordinator to compile factsheets and articles required to communicate results of projects.
Skills/ Qualifications:

- Willing to learn and work, keen interest in agriculture and research,
- Physically fit and able to work out of doors,
- Able to work independently,
- Willing to relocate to the Peace for the term of employment,
- Good computer skills & experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Publisher),
Preferred Qualifications:
-
- Hold a valid driver’s licence,
- Willing to travel and work long hours during peak periods,
- Experience with field research methods, equipment and farmers,
- Good verbal & communication skills,
